The aluminum sheet is offset from the wall by a 3/4" thick wooden frame which is attached to the back. This was a piece I painted while watching the show Ice Cold Gold about some guys looking for gold in Greenland. I was so impressed by the beautiful scenery and never realized the mountains in Greenland are much, much bigger and taller than those in Alaska.
